When visiting Port Douglas, we stayed at the Cayman Villas. These apartments included bedrooms, a living room area, a kitchen, and a porch balcony area with a comfortable bench seat perfect for reading or just chilling out.
This was actually my first stay in a villa. What did I think? How does this compare to staying in a hotel? Read on for my pros and cons.
1. The location was perfect. Staying at these villas was the perfect walking distance to town restaurants, shopping, The Great Barrier Reef port and more. Every morning I walked to Grant Street Kitchen for breakfast.
2. The villa was very nice. There was a kitchen, a washer / dryer, bedrooms, a living room with a comfortable couch, and an outside balcony porch with a view of the pool.
3. The pool was another plus. No one was in it when we went in and there were chairs around it for lounging. I did find it a little cool in the evening but that was more about the cooler weather in the evening than the pool itself. I was able to get used to the water and swim around.
4. I loved the porch area with the comfortable bench seat. I didn't spend a lot of time there due to activities but it was a nice to place to wait at times.
1. Compared to the kitchen and living room, the bedroom I stayed in was small. I shared a bedroom with a member of my party. There were two beds and with our suitcases, it was pretty tight in there. There was barely enough room to open my suitcase in there, never mind walk around in there.
2. Unlike hotels which often offer breakfast, we were on our own with breakfast and food. The villa didn't have anything to eat but luckily, there were cafes within walking distance. There was also a refrigerator where I put lunch that I picked up one day.
3. You have to remove your own trash to avoid an extra cleaning fee. We also washed our towels because we weren't sure if we had to do this too but from what I saw after we didn't have to do the towels.
I would definitely stay at the Cayman Villas again. Great location, nice pool, awesome open living area with a kitchen and porch. If you're traveling with several people, it's a logical choice for keeping your group together.
