We got to the Wet Tropics of Queensland region by riding the skyrail from Kuranda. The ride dropped us off at Red Peak station, where we were able to walk down the steps to the rainforest floor. We arrived just in time for a ranger to start one of his tours. Read on the for the pros and cons of this experience.

The Pros

1. The ranger-guided tour was really interesting and informative. The ranger did hands-on work at the rainforest, was passionate and knowledgeable about the rainforest and its animals and the tour was a small group (less than 15 people) one where we were able to ask questions.

2. We didn't really need our umbrellas or get wet as we were walking through the rainforest because the tree tops covered us. Pretty cool!

3. The tour was short and the walk was fairly easy. The ranger stopped at different areas to point specific things out. Below is a picture of the oldest tree in the rainforest!

The Cons

1. The mosquitos! We were wearing shorts and short sleeve, and I did get bit a bunch while standing and listing to the ranger. The ranger was wearing long sleeves, plants, and a wide brim hat and told us that mosquitos were abundant in the rainforest. I was itchy right away but once we left the area, the itchiness went away for me.

All in all, this rainforest tour was such a cool, unexpected experience. It did state on our itinerary that we would be able to walk down to the forest floor to view it after getting off the skyrail but the knowledgeable tour was an added bonus!
